Guided meditation can help us relax, sleep, overcome a problem, or
achieve a goal. When we listen to a guided meditation we tap into
our inner wisdom and imagination.
Listening
Listening to a guided meditation is easy—we get ourselves into a
comfortable position, switch off our phone and make sure we have
some time to ourselves. We may find this hard to do with a busy
schedule but the benefits of taking the time to ourselves can be
many.
When we listen to guided meditation we relax and open our hearts
and minds to inspiration. And when we’re relaxed, new ideas,
solutions, or inspiration can flow freely into our thoughts. We might
also get a ‘feeling’ or a ‘picture’ that will guide us or resolve an issue.
Sometimes we try too hard to solve a problem. We are too close to the
problem and can’t see a solution. We can help ourselves overcome
this by taking a break from the problem by listening to a guided
meditation. And we can approach how we listen in a number of ways.
We can listen to a guided meditation that will focus on a result, for
example success in exams. Or we listen to a guided meditation to
help us relax or escape from anything related to our problem. If we
want to escape and give ourselves a break from reality we might
listen to ‘Tranquil Paradise’, and to relax we might listen to the
‘Tranquility’ album.
About Images
During the guided meditation we’ll hear suggestions—words and
ideas—to help us access our inner wisdom. When we hear a
suggestion it will conjure up thoughts, pictures, sounds, and feelings.
For example, if the suggestion is we’re in a garden of orange trees.
What will we see in our mind’s eye, what will we feel? We may see
the orange trees, hear the thud of an orange hitting the ground, feel
its dimpled skin, smell it’s ‘orangery’ smell, and taste its zingy flesh.
Our experience may remind us of a happy holiday and feelings
associated with that time may come flooding back to us. If we’re
looking for a solution we may receive one during the meditation or it
may come sometime later. We need to have patience it will come.
Our Experience of Guided Meditation
When we’re listening to guided meditation we’re always in control of our thoughts
and feelings. Everything we experience during the meditation comes from within
us. We are a fountain of information, a source of inspiration to ourselves. We only
need to tap into it, and guided meditation can help us do that.
When we’re listening to the guided meditations we only take from it what we find
helpful and we leave everything else. We are in control of our experience and we
can stop listening at any time.
Guided Meditation has many benefits:
We learn to relax.
We calm our body and mind.
We find guidance or inspiration during the guided meditation.
We relieve ourselves of stress.
We gain confidence by solving our own problems.
After Guided meditation
After we listen to the guided meditation we can go about your daily tasks as normal.
We may find day to day tasks easier once we are relaxed and perhaps feeling inspired. We may also want to make
some brief notes on the guided meditation. Or we may write or paint about our thoughts and feelings. If we have listened
to a guided meditation with a group of friends we may decide to discuss our experiences.
